Here’s Bill Gates updated stock portfolio

Stock traders eagerly await to find out what their favorite investors did with their holdings during the previous period. The quarterly 13F holdings report provides a clear view of recent portfolio adjustments, particularly those made by billionaires like Bill Gates, who has been notably absent from the public eye lately.

However, it seems that the Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) founder wasn’t particularly active in the stock market in the period leading up to June 30, as his portfolio, consisting of 23 stocks worth $47,666,955,000 and under the management of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust, remained relatively unchanged.

Gates made only one stock purchase during Q2

Notably, during the three months up to June 30, Gates decided to increase only one holding–Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A, BRK.B), by almost doubling his position with a purchase of 7,317,105 BRK.B shares, which increased its position by 42.29%.

It seems that the ex-CEO of Microsoft isn’t interested in holding substantial voting rights in Warren Buffett’s company, as BRK.B shares reflect only 1/10,000th of the voting power that BRK.A shares have.

However, Gates will be happy to find out that his shares have added over 20% on a year-to-date basis, reflecting the savvy trading approach of his friend Buffett.

Gates decided to keep his stock sales to a minimum as well

Interestingly, Gates decided to trim stake in his former company, Microsoft, by selling 1,610,000 MSFT shares for a negative 4.41% change in its holding.

Nevertheless, MSFT stock remains his largest holding at 32.71%, with 34,889,597 shares worth approximately $15,593,905,000 according to the June 30 price of $446.95.

The only stock that he decided to sell completely was Carvana (NYSE: CVNA), by offloading 520,000, which were worth $64,662,000 at a June 30 valuation of $124.35

Looking at the remainder of his portfolio, the third and fourth largest holdings, Waste Management (NYSE: WM) and Canadian National Railway (NYSE: CNI), remained unchanged, as their positions comprise 15.77% and 13.59% of the portfolio, respectively.
